When we look at the Jedi Code what we are looking at is a system of core ideas and beliefs that were already set in place by the Buddha when he first started his public ministry, the Buddha upon attaining perfect and total enlightenment came to the realization that all life is suffering, but that we can fix the suffering if we look deeply into the nature of what causes our suffering to arise. Only then once we have totally realized the causes of our suffering we can take the necessary steps we need to rid ourselves of suffering.
Let’s take a look at the Jedi Code & Compare it to the 4 Noble Truths.
There is no emotion, there is peace << Right here comes the first of the buddhas lessons, the emotion can literally be interpreted as suffering yet taking the right action we can attain peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge << Here we have ignorance which in turn can become as suffering from the lack of not understanding. However once again if we open our minds open like the soil of the Earth opens for the rain water then we can let our knowledge bloom like a flower, and end the suffering.
There is no passion, there is serenity << Passion, obsession, possession, attachment these are all factors that lead straight to the Darkside, but once we let go of the worldly mundane attachments that we are so obsessed with then in that moment we find serenity, freedom, and peace.
There is no chaos, there is harmony << It is relevant more today than any point in human history, the world we live int today is full of chaos, people coming and going, always in a hurry, no time to stop and talk and no time or way to hear themselves think. I used to think this precept of the Jedi code was useless and not needed but then I got to know the 4 noble truths in more detail and realized just how much the world needs to slow down and find harmony, without harmony we will always be out of balance with the world and the spirit.
There is no death, there is the Force << For a lot of people death can be a scary foreboding event that bothers them for many years, however in Buddhist tradition death is often looked upon as a transformation back into the energy of the universe and reborn again into a new human being or a creature of some sort. The Force works in mysterious ways. Let us take comfort in knowing that death is not the end.May 3, 2017 at 2:57 am #193855StormyKatParticipant
Interesting. I never thought of the connection between the Jedi Code and the 4 Noble Truths. Your wording of the Truths was slightly different than what I originally learned (I love reading the slightly different wordings), and I love the way you tied them together. This is something to think of for sure. I will be back when I have processed a little better. Thanks for this!May 16, 2017 at 9:39 pm #193871sthiftParticipant
