KeymasterAs am I, but you never know. Sometimes it is something simple. Relatively.
Thank you though.

ParticipantIt’s been a while since I posted an update here. In that time I completed my 5th Nerd Fitness 6-Week Challenge scoring perfect marks. Of course, I set the goals to be achieved and keep them achievable for the most part. I am one speech away from completing my first Toastmasters manual. I’m a couple leactures short of completing Force 101 and Meditation 101. I’ve hit just about every goal in my PLP since I created it. I think I need to update it.
To effectively rewrite my PLP, I plan to post my status in several areas, then set some goals to achieve noting benchmarks and milestones. I’d like to plan it out for all of 2013. This will take some time to complete, so look for it in a couple weeks.

Almost 4 years ago… Time to dust this space off so I can update my PLP again and set my sights for future success.

ParticipantI have some great accomplishments the last few years. I’ve been tracking and posting about my hard work and progress at Nerd Fitness, but it looks like this log could use a little dusting off.
Here’s an update from September 2019 of my Epic Quest goals:
https://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/16806-jedinickds-epic-quest/&do=findComment&comment=2528067Karate
I am testing for Black Belt Shodan on SUNDAY! It has been quite an amazing journey to get here. No way I would have thought I would ever get to it in 2015. In high school through college, I thought martial arts as too long and too difficult for what I would want to get out of it compared to my interests and goals at the time.Toastmasters and Coaching
Toastmasters is helping me transition towards my coaching aspirations. I am always practicing coaching and mentoring other Toastmasters through speeches or one-on-one. I am working on my issues with speaking on video, which I feel is the strongest way for me to influence and inspire people in the digital age. One of my TM projects is to “write a compelling blog”, which is one of my Epic goals.Epic Hiking this Summer
Hiked Mt. Whitney again (2000 ft elevation hike and about 9 miles total in under 4.5 hours). Definitely considering the summit next time (6000 ft elevation and 10 hours each way). Mt. Mitchell was a breeze two weeks later, but we didn’t hike up, just hiked about 2 miles around the trails near the summit. The view was pretty awesome as the clouds moved around the mountain tops.Extra Life Fundraising
For 4 years, I have been participating in Extra Life, a charity raising funds for Children Miracle Network Hospitals to support kids with life threatening illnesses as well as those in financial dire straights. Through Giving Tuesday this week and a few key friend donations, I was able to break my fundraising goal for Extra Life! Made it to $1000 for the first time. I can’t wait to get that gold medal in the mail. I have my two silver ones hanging in front of me at work to remind me of what I was working towards this year. I’m slowly getting over my issues talking on camera. That gold one is going to push me far next year. I’m planning to record more video throughout the year. That way I can practice my video editing skills putting together short highlight videos to post.IJRS and Jedi Training
I completed all the Novice courses and started working through the exam and essay. I’m probably going to write entirely too much for these, but I want to do my due diligence. I had to put them on hold September through December with the other things going on, but after this weekend, I’ll be focusing my writing efforts into those two projects and my coaching website and blog.Life
I turned 39 in November. 10 years ago I could not have pictured how I have changed mentally and physically, but I had an idea of how I planned on changing with raising my kids, growing my marriage, progressing my career and education, and accomplishing or experiencing amazing things. Through it all, I’ve been setting up this second life for beyond 40 partly for myself, but mostly for my family with my kids growing into young adults, and the new and exciting adventures my wife and I will take them on, lessons we will teach them, and experiences they will have which will shape their young lives. By my 50th birthday, hopefully, they will both be in college or a career, out on their own, making their own way. That’s 11 years away, which sounds like a lifetime, but right now, reflecting back, it feels like it is coming all too fast.I have done so much to grow myself, but that growth has an incredible impact to those around me. If you want to change the world, then start with the one in the mirror. When you share your experience and growth, then your change will influence others to change at an exponential rate. It is absolutely amazing.

Personal Goals:
Here we would like for you to set at least four goals for yourself to work toward as you progress through the Novice curriculum. These are in addition to the integrative practice goals and your coursework at the Institute. You may wish to consider personal development goals; family goals; work, school, or career goals; financial goals; etc. These goals may be clearly and directly related to your Jedi Path, or they may seem unrelated – but remember that one of the objectives of your training with us is to learn how to integrate your Path into every aspect of your life.

ii. Toastmasters
iii. Coaching
iv. Fitness
v. Extra Life CharityObstacles you face in achieving those goals:
In this section, please identify what you think might stand in the way of achieving the goals you’ve identified anywhere in this learning plan, and then begin to identify ways you can address these obstacles.
Obstacles Solutions to those obstacles
1. Time Management My free time is limited. I need to plan and schedule in advance and according to my priorities. Make sure I leave room for fun, or else I will procrastinate on the harder tasks.
2. Procrastination Use Incentives, Consequences, and Penalties in Nerd Fitness Challenges. These are monetary at the moment.
3. Skills and confidence to create and maintain website and blog Keep practicing and recording content. Work on editing video. Write often.
4. Fear of exposure and embarrassment Keep doing things I’m scared of and be proud of who I am and what I do. -
