I wasn’t sure if this would actually fit into any category listed on the forums, but I need some help from some of you worldly people. :P

My daughter has been assigned a task for school. In this assignment, the children are to create a holiday banquet that includes traditional foods from around the world. My daughter and her partner have been assigned New Zealand. Now, I do not know of any specific New Zealanders here, but I believe Inari told me that she is familiar with the area. So, do any of you know anything about the traditional Christmas holiday desserts, customs, and traditions that are held in New Zealand?

Ummmm, especially important is that recipe part. She actually has to cook whatever she brings. So, any help would be had here.
I’ve done searches, but it all links back to American cuisine.  :vader

    Thanks in advance.

Probably you need to be using the term ‘Maori’ for the search engine, as Maori’s are the indigenous population of New Zealand.

Here are some links to get you started:

You could also try making a pavlova and decorating it with passionfruit pulp or kiwifruit (chinese gooseberries). I have receipes for this BUT they’re in metric, not imperial measurements. Shoot me an email and I’ll type one out for you.

Hmm…I was in New Zealand on Christmas day.  I ate Chinese food.  lol  It was the only thing open that wasn’t fast food.  So, while I’ve been there, I can’t actually help you with this project.  Hopefully she finds somethin yummy!

    Thanks so much, Inari.

I thought that the Maori was the indigenous people of New Zealand, but I also saw Kiwi referenced, so I was completely confused. I appreciate it, and my daughter said to tell you a great big Thank You!

And Jax…. Only you would get Chinese food on Christmas Day in another country that wasn’t China.

Lol, they’re the only people who don’t celebrate Christmas!  I was so thankful too, because I had literally flown in that day, in a strange city and country, and had no idea what else to eat.  The only other option at night was a convenience store where I got those tiny snack packs of tuna and crackers!

But you know what, it was awesome food!  and there are tons of Asians there.  It’s a very popular destination for them.  So yay for all of us.  :-)

All New Zealanders are referred to as Kiwi’s (usually by Aussies lol), the Kiwi is a native bird in New Zealand. It’s a bit like calling American’s Yanks. The pavlova recipe is on its way and if it tastes good enough, perhaps I’ll share it with the culinary minded here.

Though really its just a great big meringue with fruit bunged on top.
