Those who know me at all know I don’t celebrate or for that matter even acknowledge the validity of most holidays we celebrate here in the U.S.

But this day is the exception. This day I do consider worth remembering due to what it causes me to remember and acknowledge. While I may not always agree with the fights and wars we become involved in I always am deeply honored by and deeply appreciative of the members of the armed services past , present, and future who serve and at times give everything for the rest of us.

While I could say a lot more.

I’m not going to do so, instead I’m just going to provide a link to a u-tube video of “Taps” a simple song that no matter where I’m at or what I’m doing always no matter the time causes me to pause and remember those I have known and those I haven’t.

    Thank you all

I posted my musings on what I’ve learned from the holiday this year on my blog: http://butchjax.wordpress.com/2011/05/28/memorial-day-and-flags/

This is a holiday that takes on more meaning as I grow older and lose people and spend time around people who served and gave their life in service.

A little late but I do everything I can on memorial day to help remember. As a trumpet player I get the wonderful pleasure of being able to perform taps. I have played it at so many funerals and ceremonies I have lost track but I had the opportunity this year to play it at 5 services. Enjoyed and was honored every minute of being able to play it. I am in the process of teaching my trumpet players in the band program where I teach how to play it so they can carry on the tradition and understand what it really means.
