On this day of your life
Jackie, I believe God wants you to know…
…that the degree to which people have evolved
is instantly revealed through what
they call entertainment and ‘fun’.
What do you call ‘entertainment’?
What do you describe as being ‘fun’? How do you
spend your free time? How do you spend your
entertainment dollars? How much television do you watch?
How many movies do you see? What kind
of programs and films do you spend time on?
How many books have you read this month?
How many concerts have you caught? How many ballets
have you seen? What kind of music do you listen to?
Does any of this matter? You might just as well ask
if it matters what kind of food you eat.
Nourishment for the mind is no different from
nourishment for the body. What you put in is
what you get back — in triplicate.
– Neale Donald Walsh
This one is tricky for me. Yes, I watch tv that is simply mindless fun. But I also watch shows that stimulate my thoughts beyond mere entertainment. With a toddler and work I find I watch less of the mindless stuff because I don’t have time. And I don’t often play games on my phone because it distracts me so much. So I can see how I’ve shifted a bit in this area, but there’s also always room for improvement.
Have you really looked at how you spend your time to see if it’s in alignment with your goals? That doesn’t mean working constantly either. We must nourish our souls, but how are we doing this? Do we take in the equivalent of junk food all the time? Or do we provide quality as well?
