    And yet, we don’t have to live in that world. We can out create it. We can choose to be the outliers or we can choose to live in the system. It’s up to us, with daily choices that move us either closer to freedom or farther from it.

    That is terrifying and absolutely makes sense at the same time. Of course there is a history of this throughout human evolution. It also really makes me feel a lot better about not being able to decide what I want to specialize in. I have lots of interests, but I don’t necessarily want to do one thing with the rest of my life. This sounds fun, as does that…a little from every column please. However, it also does make sense to specialize in one thing so you can master it….

    Also as someone who has spent part of her educational/professional life doing social media — it is EXHAUSTING to keep those accounts managed properly.

    There were still specialists back in the day. Master craftsman didn’t get to that point by doing a lot of different things. There’s always a place for specialists and generalists. I think the problem is when we try to make everyone specialize, or everyone generalize. Instead, people need to find their path and walk it to their best ability.
