Jax created the topic: Low cost prescription and health care resources

Even if we are healthy, we probably all know someone who isn't.  As the economy worsens we will probably know more and more people who need medication and just can't afford it.  That's when the Partnership for Prescription Assistance comes it.  They have compiled virtually every assistance program available from pharmaceutical companies into one database.  You simply print the application form, fill it out, get your doctor to sign it, and if you meet the criteria you get free or reduced cost medication.  I know this has literally been a lifesaver for my wife, as there is no way we could have paid for the $1000 or more a month it would cost for her medication.  You can find their site here: https://www.pparx.org/Intro.php

In addition, they have a searchable database of low cost or free clinics on their resources page.  https://www.pparx.org/Resources.php

Edit:  I have forgotten another key resource, the together rx program.  It's a free drug discount card for people who don't have prescription coverage.  They simply take you at your honor that you need it.  You can receive a member number immediately, so this is a great resource.  They can cover a few dollars of a prescription or in the case of one prescription we got, about $100 so we only paid $5 or so.  We just have it on file with walgreen's and it helps immensely.  You can find it at http://www.togetherrxaccess.com/

I hope this is helpful to someone.  :-)

This is an excellent link to keep on hand - I've seen this discussed (I believe Montel Williams has been involved?) and I'm glad you posted it here!

Yep, Montel certainly is involved with some of this.  It works too!  We've saved so much money because of it. :-)

For common cold and "quick fix" , CVS in USA has Minute Clinics...I ended up using them recently because I can't afford health insurance and it was cheaper than seeing a doctor. Cost $120 for visit and meds instead of the $300+ it would have been at a hospital or doctors office. I'm sure other places like Walgreens/Walmart/Publix has clinics like this...worth checking into your local ones if you don't have health insurance.

When you don't make a lot of money you should qualify for subsidized health insurance. Have you filled out the forms to see what you are eligible for?

Jax, I have filled out a bunch of forms. GA is really strict with who they allow into those programs. I'm currently waiting to hear back about health insurance, food stamps, and a women's program. If I qualify it will really help with finances and health care! Thinking positive on that one. Right now though using the clinic I listed above has been great. I also use a discount pharmacy card when I need meds.

Ok just making sure. Sometimes people just don't apply because of bad information. By the way the insurance exchange is good in Colorado. ;-)
