What is the Force

You might think of the force as being strictly a fictional creation. Yet it was actually taken from a real spiritual phenomenon, chi or ki, as in the Tao Te Ching. In the Star Wars story, “The Empire Strikes Back” Yoda describes the force to Luke. He has these things to say:

“For my ally is the force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it and makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings, we are, not this crude matter.”

“Feel it, you must. Feel the flow. Feel the force around you. Here, between you and me, and that tree, and that rock. Yes, everywhere. Even between the land and that ship.”

Now this is an excerpt from a character in a fictional story, but what he says is essentially true. There is a power created by life, that connects us all, that bridges gaps between reality and impossibility, and we are more than crude matter.

I believe God to be both creator of the force yet also existing within the force. I see the force as a spiritual yet electrical component that connects everything. That rock, that tree, you, me, your Guardian Angel, God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus, the Prophets, your friends, your enemies, God’s friends, God’s enemies. Everything is connected. Therefore when I make an action it will have impact somewhere else within the world.
