Contrast

This is less a lesson, more of a realization I have come to. I’d like to start off with a quote from the Tao te Ching.

“When Beauty is recognized in the World
Ugliness has been learned;
When Good is recognized in the World
Evil has been learned.”

When we say we like something, we are saying we dis-like something else. When we favour a particular drink or food, we disgust another type. When we find ourselves for a view or decision, then we are against view or decision.

All the time we are telling ourselves what we like, but to have a like their must also be a dis-like. The two of them come as a package deal, for you to have one of them you must bring along the other. Both ends of the opposites, yin and yang, good and evil. Rather like the Force, wouldn’t you say? Knowing what you are resisting, or what you don’t like can help you to come to a better understanding of yourself.

 If we never said anything was good, then we would also be saying nothing is bad. The truth is we can’t. Our mind, spirit and body all have items we prefer over others. Listening to what your inner self is saying is a start to a better you….

 Know yourself, and you will know the Force. Listen to your body, your mind, and your spirit.
