Jax created the topic: Building a Lightsaber

This was originally a response to the intro course at the Jedi Realist Academy.  The material has since been lost on the forum, but it was saved elsewhere.

It was written by Rev R in response to a comment that you aren't going to learn to build a lightsaber.  Enjoy.

Not going to teach us to build a lightsabre eh? I think you are mistaken sensei.

Let us take a moment to reflect on what a lightsabre is...
A weapon, more specificly a sword. A shaft of light is what it's supposed to be. On the surface a completely harmless item, yet it can cut through any material.
Illumination that can cut through anything, isn't that the purpose of this path? To provide the learner with a formidable tool to use in everyday life. A tool that not only can illuminate the world but cut through the BS to expose the core of reality. The interconnectedness of all things "living" and "non-living". A tool to allow the student to view the flowing energies of this Force that binds and flows.

In the mythology, each Jedi was responsible for creating his/her own lightsabre. Is this not the purpose of discussion? To give the student the access to the "blueprints", yet allow them to customize the tool to suit their own needs. A weapon that allows one to fight their own "demons".

So in effect you are teaching us to build a lightsabre. Just not a laser sword. It is, rather, the lightsabre of the mind. Or better yet, the lightsabre of the heart. The Jedi and the lightsabre are one. Much as the samurai's daisho was his soul and his honour, extensions of his being, the same is true of the Jedi and his lightsabre. The Jedi is his own lightsabre or rather with time becomes his lightsabre.

Then in philosophy --- a lightsaber would be a firm grounding and understanding of the fallacies, as well as any other methods of deception and obfuscation
so that one can see through these deceptions and separate the wheat that is valid argument from the chaff that isn't.

That's a great article!  Just curious, though, who is Rev R?

He was just a man who passed through the Jedi Realist Academy for some time.  Zen guy.  Not sure where he is these days, but if nothing else, he's shared just a bit of his wisdom for all time.  :-)

Lol, but bad spelling is the mark of a master, in my experience.  ;-)  Do you use instant messenger?  We should catch up.

By the way, if you want to add to this document in any way, feel free.  I'd like to use it in the FAQs if you don't mind, Rev.  :-)
