There is a similar post at the Jedi Resource Center ( www.jediresourcecenter.org/smf/index.php?topic=2458.msg7951#new ).

I recently bought a small hip-holster style bum-bag for carrying around my absolute necessities, so my hands can be occupied with all the many and varied things that I need to cart around as the mother of two little kids. I can carry my purse and phone, a pen in it easily (and a passport, which I'm planning to do in June). I've found though that while the concept is a great one, I'd like the bag to be able to carry different things, my absolute Jedi necessities, if you will.

So, what do you folks think constitute the most useful things for a Jedi to carry, in as few items as possible?

Inari

P.S. I'll post more on this myself later.

Ok, well I've had a think about this and for an absolute minimum, perhaps for 'everyday, not going anywhere special' I'd suggest:

- A Swiss Card (credit card sized, small knife, scissors, tweezers etc, for purse or wallet or even better a pocket knife, as long as pocket knife has tweezers.
- A Fresnal Lens (see link at bottom) for purse or wallet for firestarting or helping pull out bee-stings etc.

For keyring:
- A sturdy LED light (I've seen one with a handy magnetic base)
- A Firesteel
- possibly a Kubatan (small martial arts weapon, not legal everywhere). If its not, make sure your LED light is really sturdy and use it the same way.

For pocket - 2 good sized bandanas. Can be used as emergency bandages; snot rags; carrying stuff etc.

A small, soft pencil and a small notepad. (Later edited: Actually a Space Pen might be useful instead of or in addition to a pencil. These will write at any angle, no matter the temperature, through grease etc and a Rite in the Rain notepad).

I got the idea from this from the following site:

I like the idea...

I'd say, other than wallet, identification etc...
-Definitely a pad of paper and a pen/pencil...
-The swiss card is a really good idea, (although you have to be careful- I used to have a mini swiss army knife and accidentally brought it to school because it was in my bag, which could have gotten me expelled, even though it was accidental.)
-A small first aid kit perhaps
-Tissues, hankercheif etc (It's funny, but tissues are practically a comfort item. When I'm upset it makes me feel better just to wipe my eyes and hold the crumpled tissue. ^_^;)
-I like the idea of a small martial arts weapon, but I don't own any i could carry easily and use well, so it's better to go without for me. The Kubatan is a good idea though.
-The small flashlight idea is also good

Can't think of anything else at the minute.
Much love,

Here are a few other handy things:
I carry triple anti-biotic ointment, and would consider carrying melaleuca oil for anything that needs to be disinfected, and also good for bee stings.

Fingernail clippers if a swiss army knife is impractical.

Snacks.  I have fiber bars, or carry some trail mix.  There are times when you're just a bit hungry, and this allows you to keep doing what you're doing without stopping to find and buy food.

Medications, if you are on any.  If you find yourself unexpectedly away longer than expected, that can keep problems from developing.

Emergency contact information.  In the event something happens to you, people know who to call.

I would carry the following:
-credit card
-$100 in small bills(if possible), in case ATM not available or out of order
-leatherman(the folding knife w/ multiple other tools)
-zip ties(to restrain someone)
-small first-aid kit(usually contains AB sanitizer, or hand wipes)
-ID
-pen and Rite in Rain pad
-small LED light

How could I forget cash?!  You're absolutely right on that one.  Another recommendation is for the hand crank flashlights so you don't need batteries.  :-)

Haha, I actually find that a little humorous. I used to bring my pocket knife to school everyday. Course I graduated the year before they decided we needed security. Go figure.

I actually had a smiliar idea to this quite a while ago when I first got my messenger bag, though after I loaded everything in there I realized that I had an extra ten pounds hanging on my side now. But for the sake of conversation lemme try and recall what I had with me.

- My 64 fl oz bottle of water that I still carry in my messenger bag (and when it's full thats where most of the weight comes from)
-A rain poncho
-A stapler (never know when you gotta staple something)
-Mini mag-lite flashlight(which also magically disappeared)
-A green gem (that somehow found its way out of the bag and ran away from me : ()
-A notepad
-Some pens, pencils, markers, and highlighters that are still in there
-And then whatever else my little heart desired.

I didn't need to worry about the something like a swiss card because I usually carry a pocket knife with me at all times (until recently when both my usual one and my back up both disappeared. To go hangout with the green gem and flashlight no doubt.)

Ahh the dangers of carrying a pocket knife in you boot. When I was in the 6th grade I had a pair of combat boots. I was goofing off one morning before I went to school with my pocket knife. My mom called me into the house to show me something or whatever and I placed the knife in my boot. By the time she had finished whatever she was doing I forgot it was there and went to school with a pair of knife stuffed combat boots. (now thats what you call combat ready) Anyway. I was out at recess and the scissors had slipped out (It was a cheap knife and the scissors had come loose) and stabbed me right by me achelias tendon. So I shifted it so it wouldn't stab me and when I got back to class I made the knife do a little "dissappearing act" into my backpack. So the moral of the story is. Don't play with knives before school. ;D

Yep, though I used to have one with a rounded tip. Until I forgot and tried to take my keys into the airport  :(
