(The instructions for this project are found in a separate thread. Read this first. instituteforjedirealiststudies.org/smf/index.php?topic=1817.0)

This thread will be used to discuss the spiritual and philosophical knowledge and practices a person could train toward.  I will occasionally edit this post to add the suggestions added to this thread.

Spiritual Knowledge:

Diversity of religions/differences between the religions
What they want to achieve on their spiritual path
Developing their personal spiritual path
Differences between religion and path
Understanding their role in the Universe
Connecting with the Force
Meditation with a spiritual focus - this can be as simple as a no mind meditation - basically any meditation done with a spiritual purpose such as connecting to the Force or the higher self
Understanding and coming to terms with death
Finding personal purpose in life/jedi path
Recognizing what spiritual practices are

Philosophical Knowledge:
Understanding of common philosophical concepts through history - Sophie's choice recommended
Understanding of logic and debate
Source of beliefs of right and wrong
Role of a Jedi in society
Understanding of the Jedi Path

Here are things that have been discussed in the faculty area.  Some of these aren't detailed enough but I wanted to get them down as a start.

Spirituality
- Understanding of true spirituality
- Beliefs
-- Source and influence on behavior consciously and subconsciously
-- Understanding how to question and expand beliefs as appropriate for self

I would put meditation here as well

Yea, that is the one thing I would definitely put here as well is Meditation.

I would want to specifically state meditation with a spiritual goal, as opposed to meditation for energy work.

One of those [larger] goals in meditation being, possibly, coming to penetrate the Great Mystery that is the Force; which is, to say, striving to fully understand It, and Its nature, without speculating about it which (as I see it) encompasses all of these:
Understanding their role in the Universe
Connecting with the Force
Understanding of the Jedi Path
Developing their personal spiritual path

and may also cover the remaining things A.R. posted.

Why?

Because this thread is related to the Spiritual/Philosophical, and there's another thread dedicated to energy work (Esoterics), would be my guess.

I didn't even hesitate to put meditation in the spiritual section. To me, meditation is about connecting to the self. If the self is a reflection of the outer world, then through meditation one can come to understand where they sit within the whole sphere of things. Additionally, meditation leads to enlightenment, which can be considered as a spiritual connection with the universe/Force. Enlightenment is always coupled with spirituality.

As Athais put it down for the Spiritual/Religious part I would suggest something similar for the Philosophical part as well.

Like main Philosophical directions/concepts developed over the ages.
In this way I did like the book "Sophie's World" and would suggest it as base to start from.
