I do have the Hydro Flashlights, I got one for Christmas, lol. I am also, going to check out the flashlight that use multi style batteries. I like the idea, but, I do not know the price. I did get the whistle and I am going to start get a little here and there. First, food, water, and batteries then bigger stuff.

Hydro lights start at for a big one $20. IF they do run on water, that is something you can find, usually easier, than the proper size batteries. I got a big one for a friend for Christmas and have not tried the one I got myself yet. Another thing I would add is masks. Just in case, dust is flying away. I was alerted today about how a virus could mutate and go airborne. I got a chill when someone joked about a zombie virus. I could think of several ways that could be done, sigh. We should not be playing with genetics.

Masks... or plain white cotton t-shirts. (I am all about multi purpose items to pack)

You can: wear a t shirt, wear it as a cap/hat, strain water with it, tie up a wound, make a sling and more...

Good points, lol. I am even starting to save worn out undies for toilet paper. Lol, you will run out of toilet paper at some. And, alot of leaves I WILL NOT use for that purpose. I know one guy who used poison ivy leaves for that with expected results.

Do you recommend portable drinking straws?

Water treating pills, self made 'six drops of bleach' ampules, the special straw. All those are very easy to pack and very lightweight.

I personally have NOT used one of those straws yet.
I do hope to give them a try in the near future.
