Jax created the topic: The symbol of friendship

I've been thinking about this shape for some time, and now it has even deeper meaning for me.  Here, I made a prototype out of marshmallows and bamboo skewers.

You see, the way it works is that there are four points.  Each point represents one of us: Carrie, Myself, Holloway, and Sarah.  Every point is connected to every other point without needing to go through anyone else.  And, the other three supports the fourth.  This is the same no matter what angle you look at it from.  No one person needs to be strong, because the load is always shared.

I want to make better ones.  Unfortunately, I don't know what to make them from.  I want them to be sturdy.  I also want to have colors that represent each person, which is a bit tricky since Carrie and Sarah are both indigo.  But I'll figure it out.

Any ideas of building materials?

I still think it needs a crystal or something hanging in the middle, but I already told you that on AIM.

As far as building materials, wooden dowels might work nicely as opposed to the bamboo skewers. The marshmallows are tough to beat, mainly because their edible... but some colored clay that's given some time to dry might work nicely.

Just a thought.

I agree that a crystal in the center would be awesome.  However, that's a bit beyond my minimal artistic abilities.  Clay might be a good idea, since I can shape it if i screw up.  It's also something I could bake at a low temperature and it would harden.  And it's paintable.  Hmmm...

I know this won't help you further your idea, but I just thought i'd add a note to say that's a really good idea you've come up with. I like the fact it is equal from all angles, and they're all connected to one another. :-)

Me too :-)  I mean, it's limited in that you need a group of 3 or 4 interconnected people, but that's ok :-)

I like it too. Crystal wise in the middle, you might be able to find something and attach it with fishing wire from each of the corners so it is dead center and connected to everyone. Just an idea, not sure how workable it is though...

Hey, Jax, that is awesome!

Do you know what "Magnetix" are? You can find them in the kids' toys section of most department stores. I was thinking that you could use the metal pole-thingies for the angles, and the marble-thingies in place of the marshmallows... Anyway, just a thought.

I have recently bought air curing clay and wood dowels to build these triangles.  This is what the first one looks like so far.

The next step is to work on painting.  Carrie things it will be cool as all one color, like a metallic brass or something.  I want to include swirls of metallic and bright purple, blue, and green.  I'll post once we have another update.  We also need to decide which crystal to include.  That's going to be very hard I think!
